Mamre Community House, Kedron

The best support for some families is the use of a second home where their family member with a disability can stay and enjoy life for a short while.

Mamre Community House aims to support families who have an individual with a disability by:

  1. welcoming the individual to stay with them as a guest for short periods of time at the Mamre Community House;.
  2. working in partnership with families to:
  • broaden the individual's personal and social opportunities; and
  • be proactive and flexible in finding effective and supportive responses to their needs.

Eligibility

Mamre Community House supports individuals who have an intellectual and/or physical disability who:

  1. currently live in the family home;
  2. are usually school age and older;
  3. require intensive and constant support, through the day and night;
  4. live within the defined geographical boundaries of all Mamre services.

How does it work?

The Co-ordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management of the support provided for families.

Guests are welcomed at Mamre Community House on Tuesday through to Sunday evening and continuously during school holidays.

Mamre Community House will allocate a minimum of two support staff members to welcome four guests at a time.

The staff members will support guests to:

  1. identify with their families what support they would like;
  2. engage in opportunities of their choosing during their stay including their regular activities;
  3. be responsible for their own belongings and bedrooms (with support);
  4. participate in the daily tasks within the household.

The staff members will support families to:

  1. participate in Mamre events and other Mamre services; and
  2. access relevant information, community services and supports that will enhance their lives.

Mamre asks families to:

  1. support the purpose of Mamre Community House;
  2. provide all necessary information and sign the necessary forms to assist Mamre Community House to provide the best support possible;
  3. ensure that the guest is in reasonable health and wellbeing;
  4. inform Mamre Community House if there are any changes in their lives that are relevant;
  5. comply with Mamre's policy on medication and other procedures;
  6. accompany the individual to Mamre Community House on the arrival date;
  7. have a reliable family contact at all times; and
  8. give constructive feedback on Mamre's services.
