Family Support

Families can thrive, grow and become more resilient with the right amount of support at the right time provided in the right way.

Mamre Family Support aims to provide flexible support for families of individuals with a disability who wish to develop friendships, natural networks and opportunities as a normative response to respite care.

Eligibility

Mamre Family Support supports families who have their family member with a disability living at home.

When a vacancy occurs, the Team Leader will offer support to another family in the following order of priority:

  1. families currently receiving home-based support for very young children when their child reaches school age;
  2. families who have been supported by Mamre Community House, Kedron and are requesting alternative support; and
  3. families who do not currently receive services from Mamre and have contacted Mamre for assistance

How does it work?

The Key Worker is responsible for the day-to-day management of the support provided for families and reports to the Team Leader.

Mamre Family Support provides a Key Worker who will:

  1. assist families to plan, develop and organize their own networks, supports and opportunities;
  2. arrange for paid support when required;
  3. encourage parents, brothers and sisters to take time out themselves; and
  4. 'walk with' families encouraging them to pursue their hopes and dreams.

Mamre asks families to:

  1. support the purpose of Mamre Family Support;
  2. acknowledge that reasonable risks need to be taken in order to fully support this vision;
  3. meet accountability requirements for cash transfers;
  4. assist with transport when required or allow use of public transport or a taxi;
  5. make available a budget for participation in the identified activities, interests and opportunities by the individual;
  6. work with Mamre to establish agreements and timelines;
  7. review these agreements and timelines with Mamre staff members on a regular basis to ensure that all parties concerned are fulfilling their obligations and meeting their goals; and
  8. give constructive feedback on Mamre's services.
