Building Informal Networks

With a small amount of time-limited support, families can develop intentional strategies to extend their existing networks to assist their young individual into adult life.

Building Informal Networks aims to assist young adults with a disability to:

  1. build stronger informal support networks in their life; and
  2. use these networks specifically to move into their own home.

Eligibility

Within Mamre's capacity at the time, Building Informal Networks will support young adults:

  1. whose families have used Mamre services;
  2. who have requested assistance; and
  3. who have indicated a readiness to move out of home.

How does it work?

The Co-ordinator will:

  1. 'walk with' the person and their family as they develop their vision for their future home;
  2. assist the person with their family to harness support from their existing informal networks to realise this vision;
  3. advise the network on how to support the vision in a practical way, that is, establish a home, meet friends and partners, and settle in their chosen neighbourhood; and
  4. work to integrate the existing formal support with the informal support in a whole of life approach.

Mamre asks individuals and their families to:

  1. support the purpose of Building Informal Networks; and
  2. give constructive feedback on Building Informal Networks.
