"Shut Out"

The Shut Out report, which has been put together by the National People with Disabilities and Carer Council, will be a major influence on the development of the Rudd Government’s National Disability Strategy.  It is the result of consultations with 2,500 people and written submissions from 750 poeple and organisations.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Disability , Bill Shorten said “It does not make for pretty reading, but it is an honest and thorough summary of the experiences of people with disability in Australia today.  A situation where too many are shut out of jobs, education and services, and face discrimination and unequal treatment. This report shows us where we, both as a government and a society, need to improve and I am confident it will be a major step forward in the way we treat people with disability.”
